April delToro
Lead Medical Assistant
April was born in Galveston and raised in Pasadena, TX.  April became a Medical Assistant through the Everest Institute.  Prior to working at DiabetesAmerica, April worked at Digestive Health Center and Nathan Cardiology. She chose to specialize in diabetes because of her family history.  She knows what diabetes can do to one’s body if not controlled and it makes her feel the need to take care of herself and her loved ones that much more.  April is excited to be a part of the DiabetesAmerica team because it is a great place to work while learning and exploring diabetes.  Knowing that she can be a part of helping patients that sometimes struggle managing their diabetes makes her feel good. She is married with two beautiful daughters. She loves to spend time with her family and enjoys watching her girls as they grow.

Lauren has been interested in diabetes since she began studying nutrition in undergrad.  That interest grew when she worked at a diabetes camp for children and while doing her clinical rotations during her dietetic internship.  She has seen the effect diabetes can have on a person’s quality of life and has a desire to work with patients and give them the knowledge and tools they need to help stop the progression of the disease and prevent further complications.  She likes to help people in setting and achieving their goals for better health. Yolanda Gonzalez
Yolanda Gonzalez
Diabetes Educator
Yolanda moved to Houston from Fort Worth, TX and loves working for Diabetes America! She was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, so she is a native BORICUA! She started as a High School Biology teacher, after graduating from the University of PR, Mayaguez Campus. Her passion for Diabetes started, when she was working in the OB Department of the County Hospital in Fort Worth, TX many years ago. While working there, she realized there were many pregnant diabetic clients, and no regular follow-up or education specifically for them. She ended up developing a program for them, and that’s how her passion for diabetes started! And after more than 20 years in this field, she is still passionate about it! Yolanda is married, has one daughter and loves reading and swimming.
