Jennifer is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator who chose to specialize in diabetes because of her own personal experiences. She was born in Beeville, Texas, and raised all over the state but mainly in Floresville. At the age of eleven, Jennifer was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. When she was in the 8th grade, she decided that she wanted to be a diabetes educator and help other people with diabetes. Jennifer has always been very active in sports and church. Her stubborn, independent spirit has helped her to push herself and accomplish her goals.
Jennifer attended Southwest Texas State University where she received her received a B.S. in Nutrition and Foods. Her dietetic internship was also completed at Southwest Texas State University. Her first job was as a diabetes educator at Texas Perinatal group, where she developed a diabetes education program for pregnant women with diabetes. She then worked at Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital as a clinical dietitian. There she was responsible for children with various diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, diabetes, heart disease, etc.
She is excited to be a part of the DiabetesAmerica team because she enjoys the collaboration with the doctors and educators. She feels that she can positively impact an individual’s life and help them to have a better understanding of this disease. Jennifer joined the DiabetesAmerica team to fulfill her life long goal of being a diabetes educator. She finds great satisfaction in educating people with diabetes and empowering them to take care of themselves.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys running with her black lab, Molly. She participates in half marathons, Krav Maga, trail riding on her mountain bike and going to the shooting range. She thoroughly enjoys pushing the limits and proving people wrong when they tell her she cannot do something because she has diabetes.
