Diabetes Tip #6

Enjoy Your Exercise

If choose a type of exercise that you ENJOY doing, you will be more likely to do it! Exercise does not have to be a sweaty chore you hate. In fact, it's best if you choose an activity you'll look forward to. Check with your doctor or diabetes educator first, especially if you have any complications such as neuropathy, and then get to it. Modify your exercise program as needed. Here are a list of exercise favorites that many people enjoy - maybe you can , too:
  • walking (slow or fast, pace doesn´t matter, just the length of time)

  • jogging gently

  • dancing (folk, expressive, creative, belly dance)

  • bicycling

  • swimming

  • water exercise

  • volleyball, basketball, nerf ball

  • gardening

  • walking around the mall

Only an activity that actually gets you up and off the couch will earn you the health benefits, and better blood sugars, of exercise.
